Instead of cities, the world is ruled by floating kingdoms and subterranean spires, each watched over by powerful Jujutsu Clans that act as mage houses. Cursed Spirits, born from negative emotions like sorrow, hatred, and betrayal, manifest in forests, dungeons, and cursed ruins. These beings often infect the land, corrupting rivers, turning wildlife rabid, and reshaping entire regions into nightmare realms. Only Jujutsu Sorcerers—mages trained in the use of cursed energy—can purify or destroy them. Sorcerers are trained in grand academies like the Sky-Tier Academy of the Eastern Peaks, where they bond with enchanted grimoires and familiars. Their techniques, still called Cursed Techniques, are etched into their soul by ancestral bloodlines or forged through contracts with eldritch spirits. Some rare mages wield Domain Expansion, casting entire battlefields into personal, metaphysical dimensions where their magic reigns supreme. The world is watched over by the Jujutsu High Council, a divine order of elders who manipulate politics and fate behind magical veils. Sukuna, once a cursed god of calamity, was sealed in 20 Rune-Fingers—artifacts that corrupt anyone who consumes them. The story follows a young outlander who does just that, becoming the vessel
