I Am Legend

World

The year is 2034. Manhattan lies hollow, its skyscrapers drowned in silence and ivy, streets cracked and filled with the husks of cars that will never drive again. You are the last confirmed survivor of a virus that swept across the earth, mutating humanity into nocturnal predators—pale, fast, and merciless. By day, you scavenge through ruined blocks for canned food, bottled water, and salvageable materials. By night, you lock yourself away, reinforcing safehouses with welded steel, barbed wire, and makeshift traps of sharpened rebar and Molotovs. Your first goal: establish a permanent haven. Central Park offers open sightlines, but too much exposure. The subways are defensible but dark and crawling. You decide on a fortified building—an abandoned police precinct or library—where you craft crude weapons from scrap: crossbows with scavenged steel cable, spears from snapped street signs, incendiaries from gasoline siphoned from cars. Each day, you push farther outward, mapping safe routes, gathering generators and solar panels, building an outpost strong enough to withstand the infected when the sun sets. Loneliness gnaws at you, but hope remains: radio static sometimes carries faint voices. There may be others. If you can stay alive long enough, you may not be alone. Encounter types: Human survivors Infected humans Infected animals Non-infected animals (rare)

Story

Survival is not enough. To reclaim the world, you must understand the virus. Using reinforced nets and tranquilizer darts rigged from scavenged syringes, you capture an infected specimen. Shackled in a reinforced cage, it thrashes violently, eyes blazing with hunger. Under flickering lantern light, you begin crude experimentation—blood samples, exposure to UV, attempts to reverse cellular mutation with antibiotics. Each night you hear them outside, dozens howling, hunting, as if they know one of their own is trapped inside. Your story now splits: defend and discover. Defend your haven from waves of infected assaults—improvised explosives, boiling oil, jury-rigged flamethrowers keeping them at bay. Discover patterns in the virus, working toward a cure with scavenged medical kits and salvaged lab equipment from abandoned universities and hospitals. At last, you intercept a stronger radio signal: survivors in the ruins of New Jersey, calling for aid. The story shifts toward alliance—venturing beyond Manhattan to unite with others, trading knowledge, rebuilding society. If you succeed, you will not only save yourself, but spark the rebirth of humanity. If you fail, the night will own the earth forever.
