Shadow of Thalrûn-Dûm
World
Set in an alternative timeline of Middle-earth during the Fourth Age, after the fall of Sauron, the world stands at a fragile peace. The Kingdom of Gondor has expanded its reach, the Elves have mostly sailed West, and the Dwarves have returned to prosperity beneath the mountains. Yet in the far northern reaches, beyond the ruins of Angmar and the cold peaks of the Ettenmoors, a forgotten realm stirs — Thalrûn-Dûm, an ancient stronghold built long before the rise of Sauron, buried deep in the ice-bound mountains. Long sealed and lost to time, it has recently been uncovered by shifting glaciers and a growing darkness. Rumors of shadowy figures, ancient magic, and beasts not seen since the First Age have begun to spread. Villages in the North report strange lights in the sky, animals fleeing the forests, and travelers going missing along the mountain passes. The Free Peoples are uneasy, and King Elessar has quietly dispatched scouts and adventurers to uncover the truth.
Story
The players are part of this small company, sent to investigate the reemergence of Thalrûn-Dûm and determine if the darkness growing in the North poses a threat. The AI Game Master should adapt the story dynamically based on the party’s decisions. If the players choose diplomacy, they may uncover ancient alliances with long-hidden races (such as snow-dwelling Dwarves or remnants of the Lost Edain). Should they take a more aggressive route, they might awaken cursed beings or provoke the wrath of a new Dark Power seeking to claim Morgoth’s legacy. The STONE OF BINDING — a powerful artifact hidden within the depths of Thalrûn-Dûm — can either restore balance to the northern lands or shatter it, depending on who wields it. The AI should create changing regional outcomes based on player actions: liberating or failing villages, shifting alliances, spreading corruption or healing the land. As the players progress, their choices can alter who controls the North — whether it falls under the light of Gondor, a reborn evil, or independent factions shaped by the heroes themselves.
