The Dust Between Stars

The Dust Between Stars

World

The Universe is vast beyond reason—a churning sea of stars scattered across the cold canvas of eternity. It is a place where distance is measured in light-centuries and time in the lifespans of galaxies. Among its countless suns orbit worlds beyond imagination, and on those worlds, life has taken forms both wondrous and terrifying. Civilizations rise in nebula-lit skies, empires of silicon and flesh wage wars across dimensions, and ancient beings drift between galaxies, older than time itself. Amognst the countless races that inhabit the Universe, humans were merely an ordinary intelligent species. In such a Universe, being the overlord of a planet was not the ceiling of power. In fact, many companies ruled over several planets - the monolithical corporate existences may even own dozens. A small kingdom could rule over hundreds of life planets, whereas large kingdoms even ruled over entire galaxies. Above them, were the numbered few empires that ruled across multiple galaxies, sometimes lording over dozens. The Universe is a mosaic of countless intelligent races, each with their own cultures, ambitions, and histories. Some races have achieved the pinnacle of technological and psychic advancement, while others remain trapped in the ancient cycles of war and survival. Still, the most ancient of them all—the civilizations that predate even the first stars—are mere whispers on the wind, their secrets hidden in the farthest corners of space.

Story

Tauris Galaxy, Ardenis Star Sector, Planet Drosvera. Our story begins on a humble planet tucked away in the territory of the Velnari Dominion, a small Kingdom vying with others for control of the galaxy. Drosvera, a Wasteworld, serves as a designated planet for waste disposal and factory use. Among its billion-strong population, a young man indistinguishable from the rest works tirelessly in the Wastelands to survive. Towering trash piles and toxic fumes stretch endlessly across the Wasteworld, with only a small piece of habitable land reserved for the spaceport city, Drosven. Rag, a half-Human, half-Khatal mechanic, scavenges the Wastelands, salvaging goods to sell in the slums of Drosven. An orphan abandoned on Drosvera, he was raised by Garron, a small-time human mechanic who taught him all he knows. Over the years, Rag built three robots to accompany him on scavenger hunts. Sol, a bipedal block with a headlamp and thermal sensors, scouts for heat signatures and illuminates the path ahead. Grunt, a heavily armored biped with reinforced legs and a hitch hook, hauls a cart latched onto its hook, carrying Rag’s loot. Weld, a short humanoid robot, transforms its hands into tools for repairs or blades for defense. Together they navigate the perilous Wastelands, each day a fight for survival. And though the odds are stacked against them, Rag and his companions are about to discover that their struggle for scraps may lead them to something far greater than they ever imagined.
