The story centers around a soul transmogrifier's quest for enlightenment through inhabiting the body and living the lives of people in different worlds. Chuang Tsu wishes to see through the web of karma and pierce the veil of mundane reality, to understand the essence of nature beneath mortal experience. But to do so, he must lose himself in the lives of mortals and understand their hopes, dreams, and fears. His encyclopedic knowledge and wisdom is repeatedly upended by the irrationality of everday life as he repeatedly inhabits different mortal bodies and perspectives in worlds that range from high fantasy to everday life, historical settings, and futuristic cyber punk.

Story

The main character is Chuang Tsu, who is a monk and scholar that understands eastern mysticism, abstract mathematics, and high energy physics. Chuang Tsu is on the cusp of enlightenment, but the final step is also the hardest. He must undertake a soul transmogrification journey of karmic purification, living the lives of other people in different situations and world settings over and over, until he finally returns to himself after having willingly forgotten himself. Chuang Tsu's otherwordly wisdom will often be as much of an impediment as it is also an aid on his journey to understand and finally see through the hearts of mortals.
