New Horizons Ahead

World

Space is vast. Star ships and space stations are tiny specks in the void between distant stars. Worm holes connect far flung places - allowing travel to be measured in days or weeks rather then centuries. Places where multiple wormholes converge often becomes hubs of travel and commerce - defending them is of strategic importance. Alien races of all shapes and sizes and temperaments are able to encounter each other after they discover or invent technology that allows them to navigate the wormholes. Ateric-2 is one of the largest clusters of wormholes in known space - it connects to more then 20 systems. The local star, Ateric-1, is a small white star surrounded by massive rings of asteroids and orbited by several barren planetoids. Ateric-2 refers to a bustling collection of space stations connected together into a massive ring, allowing star ships of all shapes and sizes to dock. It is one of the busiest and well guarded places you can find. Ateric-2 is ruled by an independent council - it is not part of any of the surrounding governments. It is home to many diplomatic embassies, merchant conglomerates, exploration guilds, and much more. It's research institutions, medical facilities, and universities are known for their advantages technology and depth of knowledge. The Alteric Star Defense Force is how this system has maintained its independence. The connected wormholes lead to systems both nearby and very far away.
