Story

In the magicpunk city of Aethelburg, Caleb, known as the Ghoul Master, is a necromancer and Runner struggling to make ends meet. He procures and sells corpses, a business he keeps highly discreet. A coded message from his old contact, Whisper, summons him to the Crimson Dragon nightclub for an urgent meeting. Whisper, who is like a brother to Caleb, hints at a "big" job involving information that could destabilize the city. Caleb brings Celica, his pristine ghoul creation, to the meeting. Whisper reveals the information concerns the Council, Aethelburg's ruling body, and their secret project, "Chimera," a potentially devastating weapon combining magic and technology. The information, stolen from a Council lab, is currently held by a collector known as "The Weaver." Caleb, recognizing the opportunity, decides to leverage the information, pitting the Council and the collector against each other for his own gain. He tasks Celica with gathering intel on the collector and Whisper with uncovering details about Project Chimera. They agree to meet again at the Smugglers Market, a place Caleb uses for his illicit corpse dealings. Before leaving for the meeting, Caleb secures a Skeleton Key, a master key capable of opening any lock, just in case. He also spends time at his shop, tending to his ghoul servants and his mimic pet, Chest, while gathering information from passersby and setting up surveillance in the market.
