X-Men meet the Black Company. A low fantasy setting where magic exists but it’s obscure, arcane, and practiced by only a few. Steam power and clockwork exist, as do firearms. But firearm use opens small portals to demon filled places and so they’re largely avoided. The world is seeing the aggressive exploration by and expansion of the major empires and political powers, so there are many as of yet undiscovered places and secrets. For undiscovered reasons, mutations are not uncommon though they tend to stray to the more mundane. Having excellent low light vision, or being able to manipulate small amounts of water or fire, or limited telekinesis, are examples.

Story

The story focuses on the characters of a mercenary group that is hired to explore, discover, and bring back those discoveries for their employer. They are often employed by competing countries and empires. The characters are a diverse collection of capabilities, specialties, and ethnicities.
