Beneath Ashfall lies a colossal Abyssal Rift, a wound in reality sealed during the final days of the Last Concordance War. Rather than destroy the rift, the victorious powers chose convenience: they built a city over it and bound its seal to artifacts, bloodlines, and sacrifices that few now remember. The Age of Failing Seals has begun. Across the world, ancient wards decay, divine miracles falter, and gods grow distant or silent. Infernal incursions increase each year, and prophecy has become unreliable—truth fractures under the strain of planar instability. Ashfall remains prosperous, unaware that its warmth, wealth, and protection are siphoned directly from the magic keeping the rift closed. Earthquakes, strange cult activity, and disappearances plague the lower districts, dismissed by the ruling council as manageable unrest. At the heart of the city’s underdark vaults hangs the Bell of Last Mercy, an artifact forged by celestials and devils together—an impossible alliance born of desperation. Story

The party were never meant to be saviors. Each of them came to Ashfall for personal reasons—debts, ambition, faith, escape—but circumstance and stubborn survival pushed them deeper than anyone else dared go. They are veterans of impossible fights, bonded by shared loss and quiet trust rather than heroism. Each carries something unresolved: a vow broken, a family lost, a god questioned, a future feared. The dungeon beneath Ashfall has stripped them of certainty, spells, allies, and time. What remains is choice. Their story is not about defeating the Abyss. It is about deciding who deserves to pay for stopping it. Through divination, forbidden texts, and dying guardians, they have learned the truth: the Bell will save the city, but not the party. One of them will be erased completely—no afterlife, no resurrection, no memory preserved by the gods. The sacrifice will be total, and it will be random. No hero’s death. No final words. Their objective is brutally simple: prevent the Abyssal Rift from opening. How they do it will define the rest of their lives, and possibly the fate of the world. If they ring the Bell, they become legends built on a grave no one can mourn properly. If they destroy it, they live—but unleash a catastrophe that future generations will suffer for. There is no hidden third option. The dungeon is collapsing. The Bell is cracking.
